October Beer of the Month – Great Divide Claymore
The Beer of the Month is a series which will highlight the many craft brews featured in the Raven’s Roost Pub.
Beer: Great Divide Claymore Scotch Ale
Brewer: Great Divide Brewing Company
If you name your beer after a medieval Scottish sword, it’s a fairly good bet that I’ll take a look at it. How could I not consider such a brew for a medieval castle pub?
If you make that same beer as good as Great Divide Claymore Scotch Ale, you’re sure to secure yourself a spot on the Raven’s Roost pub menu.
Great Divide describes their Claymore Scotch Ale as a:
“…tribute to the legendary “Wee Heavy” beers of Scotland. This malty, deep-ruby beauty features lots of caramel sweetness, a reserved hop profile, and a subtle warming character. Unlike its namesake, this beer only requires one hand, but it’ll still make you feel like nobility.”
That ‘warming character’ is one of the things I enjoy so much about the Claymore. It’s also the reason we’ve picked it as Ravenwood Castle’s Beer of the Month for October – a month in which a little warming is often welcome.
The Scotch Ale is a perfect brew for the transition between autumn and full on winter. As the temperature starts to drop outside and the skies turn overcast, there’s nothing better than pulling a chair up to the fire and enjoying a pint of Wee Heavy.
So treat yourself like nobility, and enjoy a Great Divide Claymore Scotch Ale on your next visit.
We’ll save you a seat by the fire.
