Activity Spotlight – Local Breweries
We pride ourselves on our craft beer selection here at Ravenwood Castle. We have a wide variety from IPAs to stouts, wheats to sours, and just about everything in between. In addition to the brews we feature in house, we also have a great selection of nearby breweries for guests who want to venture out for a day trip. In an ode to last week’s National Beer Day, this week we want to spotlight three breweries: Brewery 33, Little Fish Brewing Company, and Rockmill Brewery.
Br3w3ry, commonly referred to as Brewery 33, is located in Logan, Ohio. Brewery 33 boasts an impressive, rotating lineup of 14 handcrafted beers (sometimes more!) and two sodas all year-round. All of these are made in-house by their master brewer David Kornmiller. If you’re feeling peckish after a few pints, grab some Ohio-made snacks like Carolina Reaper Beef Jerky or Rue Farms Rustic Potato Chips. Then again, perhaps you’re hankering to try some local fare. Call in and order from restaurants like the Hungry Buffalo or Millstone BBQ and get it delivered right to you! Brewery 33 is also known for being a host for a variety of food trucks during the warmer months. Find a schedule of all their events on their website – you will find military discount nights to live music and food trucks to experimental batch tastings.
You can find the Little Fish Brewing Company in Athens, Ohio. They strive for that “farmhouse mentality” with locally sourced ingredients and receiving power from solar panels and wind power credits. Little Fish is 100% independently owned and wants their company to reflect what they stand for. On their website they have an entire landing page dedicated to their sustainability and zero waste efforts. Once inside, you will find a massive lineup of beers on tap and in bottles. There is a full kitchen onsite as of 2018 that is run by Becky Clark from Pork & Pickles, another local, sustainability focused business. Open from 12 PM to 8 PM daily, you will find bar snacks, salads, pizza, desserts, and even a kid’s menu. Check out their Facebook for bottle releases and other fun indoor/outdoor events!
Rockmill Brewery, located in Lancaster, opened in 2010 and is owned by Matthew Barbie. Listening to their origin story is fascinating – having no background in brewing, Matthew learned from making mistakes and working to understand the science behind it. Rockmill is definitely a Belgian-style brewery, Matthew explains and goes on to say that the water of Rockmill is extremely important to the styles of beers that they craft. One of the specialties of Rockmill are the brews that are triple aged in whiskey barrels from local micro-distillery Middle West Spirits. Check out their website for more information and full event calendar.
While our lineup of craft beers and sodas at the Castle is one for the record books, we love supporting other local businesses and hope you make your way to one or two during your stay with us! What have you been sipping on the last few weeks?
