Activity Spotlight – Hocking Hills Moonshine
If you’ve stayed at the Castle before you know how much we love craft beer. We pride ourselves on keeping a variety of beers in stock that are not only unique, but delicious. After a long day of hiking (or gaming) there’s nothing better than a cold beer on our Pub patio or back in the comfort of your accommodation. In the past we have put a spotlight on craft breweries in the area and today we’re going to shine that spotlight on an attraction you won’t want to miss on your next trip to the Castle: Hocking Hills Moonshine.
Located less than a half an hour from the Castle is Hocking Hills Moonshine – perfect for a day trip! Brian St. Clair and brother Eric started this moonshine distillery in the fall of 2015 and have been going strong ever since. All their flavors are a hit with guests and as of November 2020, the distillery has even rolled out their own bourbon!
Hocking Hills Moonshine offers free tours and tastings of the shine for $1. The tour will let you see the art of making moonshine from start to finish. The process is completed by hand in small batches. Once the tour concludes, you can pick up some one-of-a-kind Hocking Hills merchandise or snag yourself a shirt from the distillery. This family-owned business has guests raving about the friendliness and willingness of the staff to educate guests on what they do. Before you leave make sure to take a photo in front of their staged wall to share on social media!
You’ll find 45 proof flavors such as Granny Apple, Peach Tea, Blackberry, and Raspberry. The original recipe of 90 proof hits the spot but if you need a little more kick, then set your sights on their 120 proof Buckeye Lightning. If that’s not enough, check out their Buckeye Thunder: 151 proof!
There are some exciting plans in the works for the future of Hocking Hills Moonshine so stay tuned. Brian St. Clair let us in on one of those plans: “We are waiting on a food license to open a restaurant. Then we can obtain a bar license. Then it’s game on.”
Add Hocking Hills Moonshine as a “must visit” on your next stay at the Castle!
