Hiking in Hocking Hills: Old Man’s Cave
There is an abundance of things to do in the Hocking Hills region no matter the time of year. The area is known for its spectacular views and plethora of outdoor activities. For Ravenwood guests it is even easier since we’re central to some of the most popular hiking trails! Guests flock from all over the country to see Hocking Hills and experience the beauty of places like Ash Cave and Cedar Falls. This week on Quoth the Raven we are diving into Old Man’s Cave, just a 20-minute drive from the Castle!
Old Man’s Cave
Whether you visit during the warmer months or what some refer to as the “off season”, you will love the trails at Old Man’s Cave. Visitors refer to Old Man’s Cave as a “choose your own adventure” because there are many breakaway trails to take (it’s actually comprised of 6+ trail routes!) You can do a longer excursion or a short loop depending on where your hike begins.
Looking for an easy, family-friendly hike? Try the Old Man’s Cave and Naturalist Cabin Loop. The loop is 0.6 miles and is one of the most frequented trails in the area. This is great for all skill levels and is a great day trip if you’re staying at the Castle. After your adventure come back to the Castle for an Excaliburger or visit a fan favorite in Logan like Millstone BBQ.
Would you like a longer, more strenuous day hike? The Old Man’s Cave Trail is 5.3 miles in length (there is no loop, so lace up for a long hike or park a car at the beginning and end). This trail lets visitors enjoy hiking, walking, running, and fishing. Some visitors say this trail is best enjoyed on a weekday. On this trail you will pass the Devil’s Bathtub and Whispering Falls. You will finish the hike near Cedar Falls!
We recommend carefully planning out your hike before taking to the trails. Make sure you have proper footwear and a paper copy of the trail or AllTrails on your phone. Stay safe and happy hiking!
