50th Annual Winter Hike

Are you looking to get away this winter? Why not come visit Ravenwood Castle and enjoy the Hocking Hill’s spectacular winter hiking?

Winter hiking, you say? Absolutely! Everyone knows that the Hocking Hills offers great hiking trails. What fewer people know is that those trails are open year round, and that some of the best hiking is in the winter! Those willing to brave the winter chill are rewarded with breathtaking views and spectacular scenery.

After you finish your traipse through the winter wonderland, head on back to Ravenwood Castle for a warm meal and hot chocolate by the fireplace in the Great Hall. Or warm yourself by the fire in the Raven’s Roost Pub, while enjoying a drink and one of our hobby board games!

You may think that we would be the only ones crazy enough to hike in the winter. You may be right, we may be crazy, but we’re not the only ones! In fact, the Hocking Hills puts on an annual Winter Hike which attracts upwards of 5,000 hikers not afraid of a little winter chill!

This year’s hike is scheduled for January 17th, and will mark the 50th anniversary of the Annual Winter Hike. Hikers will assemble at the Hocking Hills State Park Campground any time between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM and embark on a wonderful 6 mile hike from Old Man’s Cave to Ash Cave. Hikers should come dressed for the weather in layered clothing and of course appropriate footwear is highly recommended.

The Winter Hike as well as all pre-hike and post-hike activities are free. Donations are encouraged for the refreshments, and for the return ride to Old Man’s Cave. Commemorative patches and hiking stick medallions are available for purchase.
