Activity Spotlight – Hiking Trails
Ravenwood Castle is nestled away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life in the beautiful Hocking Hills region. One of the many benefits to visiting the Castle is the chance to unplug from technology and enjoy quality time spent with your friends, family, or significant other. Today we will explore one of the countless activities on our premises that provides the perfect backdrop for just that: the Hiking Trails.
Ravenwood Castle is surrounded by woodland, which allows guests to begin a trek around the property at a variety of different starting points. If you’re staying in Baker’s or Brewer’s Cottage, you have direct access to the primary trail head, located near the new Observation Deck area. For those in the castle proper, there is a second access to the trail system behind the beautiful hedge maze. Either of these two trail heads will set you on a loop around the main property. Along the way you will be treated to a view of the Medieval Village and several interesting rock formations as you make your way to the Huntsman Hollow cabins. A small creek runs through this part of the trail system, providing another fun place to explore.
For those that want more of a challenging endeavor, there is a final entrance to the trail system located off the driveway near our parking area. This trailhead accesses an extended set of trails which stretch away from the castle proper and allow you to explore the greater grounds. This system contains many hills and valleys, so it’s not for the faint of heart!
As part of our love for exploration, we want all of our guests to have the ability to navigate the Ravenwood trails with ease. This summer we are in the process of installing additional trail markers and rope hand rails to give guests peace of mind in areas with an incline.
Once you’ve explored the several miles of trails around Ravenwood Castle, if you’re still looking for more outdoor adventure, Ash Cave, Cedar Falls, Old Man’s Cave, and many more noteworthy Hocking Hills areas are only a short drive away!
